A hugely attractive, hand-wrought German Jugendstil cross, dating from the c1900 era. Crafted in 935 silver, it is higher quality than sterling so was usually reserved for the finer pieces. These large, showy aquamarine-coloured stones actually test as spinels. They are fabulously-faceted and sparkle easily if the pendant is moved even a touch. So much light, brightness is lovely on such a statement cross and does give it a very gentle, ethereal appearance. There are tiny marcasite touches at the cardinal points, as well as decorating the matching bale. I find it to be a uplifting piece of work, reminiscent of Arts and Crafts pieces.

Hand-crafted so if you are looking for perfect symmetry, you won’t find it here…it is an organic pendant. I’m guessing the stones were cut by lapidaries in Germany, as they are impressive stones. The bottom stone seems a shade darker than the others but I have scrutinised it and it does seem to be the original. I love the large square-shaped claws retaining the stones. It is a large size at approx 7.4cm by 4.5cm. Stamped “935” on the bale.

A very pretty cross with high-quality spinels, that are currently hugely in favour. Light, bright, sparkly and with marcasite twinkles too. A beauty of an antique cross. In pleasing condition with no damage to the stones.

I shall send in a new gift box by special delivery within the UK or else by International Tracked and signed. Boxes in the images are not included. Thank you.
