A rare Bernard Instone design executed in solid 9ct gold, with full UK hallmarks. Made to a 1930s design of his and assayed later, this beautiful thing is just wonderful to have in solid gold, as the usual examples we see are in silver. It has those beautiful sharp smaller leaves with clear veins and a 3D effect central vein, as well as showing the longer, sleeker leaves, which are used to drape over the inside rim.

There are six clusters of these leaves and each arrangement is set with the instantly recognisable five petalled flower, also in gold. Six mixed gemstones (all faceted) including a pear-shaped and an oval garnet, a round aquamarine, a round amethyst and two teardrop-shaped peridots. The colours against the bright yellow gold are vibrant, elevating this beautiful brooch even further.

Many of us are wearing brooches as pendants nowadays so I guess you could wrap a gold chain around it and do the same. It has a secure roll-over catch which would be useful for that purpose. Tiny UK hallmarks for Birmingham are pressed into one of the stones’ settings on the reverse. Clearly assayed later-it is instantly recognisable as a 1930s design by Instone. Partial mark-so very tiny, hard to believe they managed to get it as small as to fit in the base of a setting. A lovely, statement brooch measuring approx 4.2cm in diameter.

All stones and gold work in excellent order-full of glitz and sparkle and absolutely ready-to-wear.
