An amazing thing! Needless-to-say, I have not come across a Linnell ring like this in either stature or in the use of such glorious stones, including precious stones such as rubies and a sapphire. Generally most A&C pieces were set with semi-precious stones so it is lovely to find one with precious stones too. Most probably a commissioned piece in the mid 1920s-this fabulously statement, hand crafted Linnell ring has now made her way to the surface once more.
It is all hand crafted, and even the three rectangles on the main form of the ring, have that non-symmetrical hand crafted quality to them. The silver leaves draped in each rectangular section are undoubtedly Linnell’s. The mix of cabochons, again in a non-symmetrical formation, also sings Edith Linnell.
I love the colour combination used here, the main pairing is the red of the rubies with the blues of the sapphire and the chalcedony……gorgeous. There is even an amethyst set next to an emerald (my jeweller insists it’s an emerald as I took it to be chrysoprase). A beautiful and very unusual, striking design and I can’t see that there were to of these made!
A statement ring, which looks so flattering on the finger, as you can see. It is also in a large size, again making me think it was commissioned with a certain individual in mind.
No marks, as you would expect and in pleasing condition. The foil of the amethyst is a little discoloured (it is a tiny stone) but aside from that-in excellent order, for its age. Wear it and feel the history of the piece flood through you. Approx UK size S (US size 9). The length of the face of the ring is approx 2.3cm.
