What an incredibly rare piece of impressive Georgian jewellery! Originally a brooch, it has had a bale attached at some point in its history so, as you can see, hangs beautifully from a gold chain as a statement pendant. In jewellery language, a pansy symbolises romantic love and is given to those whom you hold dear to your heart. This fabulous example of a Georgian pansy jewel is even more rare as it comes with those buttery 18ct yellow gold leaves and stalk. Oftentimes these flowers were not accompanied by leaves.

The detailing on this pendant is beautiful; the typical Georgian settings for the stones (five petals), the choice of both yellow and purple stones replicating the dual colours often found on pansies and that intricate centre of the flower detailing with stamens – just beautiful. I acquired this as “gem set” and assumed the yellow stones were citrines. However, when I tested them, the arrow on the gem tester shot past the citrine mark and on to the spinel section. I believe them to be yellow spinels-hence as you can imagine, the yellow on those petals is vivid to say the least. The purple stones are original too, but are different stones-one being amethyst and the other may be a paste. I love the two shades of purple-so much careful detailing.

As was fairly typical the flower head was crafted in 9ct gold and then it has been attached here to the base of the plant in all its 18ct glory. The yellow, buttery look is fabulous. No markings but all the gold tests as 18ct (lower section) and 9ct gold (flower section). Ready to wear as a pendant, although part of the brooch fittings are still present if you wish to reinstate by adding a pin. The brooch measures approx 4cm long and is such pleasing condition for her age. Very light wear to the stones-no chips or scratches pleasingly. The listing is for the pendant only, however if you wish to ask about the 9ct gold chain used in the images, please drop me a line.

I will send by Tracked and Signed, and by courier internationally. I will protect her in a new gift box for transit. Any boxes in the images are not included. That you.
