A wonderful, hand-painted enamel Jugendstil brooch with full stamps for Austria. It is a statement sized piece of Art, that has been enamelled by hand in beautiful colours. There is a shimmering gold enamel throughout the design which catches the light too. I am particularly fond of the pale pink and lime green contrast and how it highlights Christ against the dark blue background. It is a fabulous piece of art that you can wear and most likely it is one of a kind.
This is an impressive piece, being more substantial in size than most brooches, measuring approx 6cm in diameter. The enamel has also been sealed to the verso, giving it extra stability. The solid silver surround is in impeccable balance with the enamel, with its simple corner features. For me, they each look like angels with their wings outstretched. It is such a rare find!
In superb condition too , this really is a unique trinket to treasure. With the silver stamp “800” typical of the era and also the Austrian silver stamps, its heritage is not in doubt.
