Description

What a fabulous antique jewel by Liberty & Co in the c1917 era. It was featured in the 1917 Christmas gift catalogue by Liberty & Co of London, so is a documented Liberty piece. It has been wrought by hand into this beautiful design, which I have never come across before. Ceylon blue moonstones with high adularescence give those striking blue flashes when the pendant moves too, so it is an eye-catching piece all round.

Intricate silver work in an open work design of flowers and scrolls give a sense of lightness of the work. Seven moonstones in all, with a tiny round moonstone appearing at both the top and bottom of the main shield shape. An oval moonstone is suspended in the drop beneath the main section. Set by hand, all moonstones (apart from the tiny two aforementioned stones) have been set with a fine mille grain finish to the settings. This is such a quality jewel.

The pendant retains her typical triangular-shaped, original Liberty bale. The chain is of the era- a Murrle Bennett signed chain with its original toggle fastener. Murrle Bennett’s work was also retailed at Liberty & Co, so the pairing makes complete sense. Nice to have an MB signed chain!

The height of the pendant, including the bale, is approx 5.3cm and the length of the chain is approx 45cm (17.75 inches). In excellent, all original condition.
