Description
Wow and more wow….I just can’t describe the vivid pinks and flashes of purples from this staggeringly gorgeous antique riviere necklace. Dating from the c1900 era, this is a fabulously scarce piece of jewellery. To find an opals riviere dating from this era is scarce enough but to find one with pink foils is super unusual. As you can see it is a treasure of a piece with 29 opals, the 29th being set in the “invisible” clasp so that you have a continuous run of opals around your neck.
The stones are graduated from the largest in the centre to smaller near the clasp. Crafted throughout in sterling silver, I love the old silver tongue and box clasp set with an opal. The pink foils add a lovely depth of colours to these opals and when you move the stones around, you can see the purple flashes like lightning bolts in the top layers of the stones. There is some variation in tones on some stones, completely as you would expect for natural stones. The condition is excellent with no chips or damage to the stones.
A sumptuous piece of antique jewellery and one that is also extremely scarce. Perhaps the 29 stones are significant to you, perhaps you love opals or perhaps you simply adore pink jewels. It is a crowd pleaser for sure.
The largest opal measures approx 13mm in diameter and the smallest, approx 8mm. The length of the necklace is approx 38.5cm (just about 15.25 inches) so pleasingly, long enough to wear as a choker as is. Some patina to verso and you must remember to clean this fabulous piece carefully with a gentle silver jewellery cloth, as opals and foils do not love water and cleaning fluids.
I shall send by complimentary special delivery within the UK or else by express courier internationally. I will package this beautiful thing in a new gift box, as the boxes in the images are for display only. Thank you.
