Description

This is a wow of a piece of c1925-30 Arts and Crafts jewellery, firmly attributed to Sibyl Dunlop. Indeed, this mix of colours in the selected gemstones appears in a number of Dunlop pieces I have acquired over the years.  The lightness of design is matched by the lightness of chosen stones-it is a truly uplifting piece of hand crafted work. The silver scroll and fan motifs which appear four times in this arrangement of stones, I have also come across before, although the other piece was nowhere near as large as this brooch.

The large cabochon blue chalcedony at the centre of the design is echoed in the use of four smaller, oval blue chalcedony cabs-two on either side of the brooch. They are set to either side of a pale green amazonite stone. At the N and S positions we have two natural pearls, with all of their fabulously organic idiosyncrasies. Set by hand so their bezels are also organic in shape. To the centre of the pair of pearls at top and bottom, sits a pale and open-backed amethyst cab. It is a sublime mix of colours, of which I am truly in awe. It is such an impressive piece.

The verso is smooth ( a commonality of the similar Dunlop pieces in this style I have owned). Great to see the original pin and clasp too and all stones being present and correct…yippee, no damage. The amazonite stone to the right has a small, natural fissure in it. She measures approx 6cm wide by approx 4.2cm in height. This will make a fabulous addition to any outfit and I defy anyone not to notice these splendid gemstones and how their colours enhance the overall look of the piece.

I will send in a new gift box as the boxes in the images are for display only. Complimentary tracked and signed postage is included. Thank you.
