Description
Elizabeth Bonté is a highly collected jewellery designer / artisan, who created beautiful Art Nouveau pieces in the early years of the twentieth century in Paris. She worked in the workshop she set up in Paris with Georges Pierre, another gifted designer in the same type of jewellery. She is known to be one of the absolute best in this genre of jewellery, ie, carved horn Art Nouveau pieces. This piece is signed, which is a lovely bonus too.
It looks like it has really been taken care of over the decades, as the original ribbon and glass balls are still intact and undamaged. There has been a huge amount of work put into this piece, as the horn had to be manipulated and worked for many hours in order to get to the stage where it could be crafted into a design. Add to that the hand-dyed elements (pinky purple), then you are looking at an absolute work of art and a completely unique piece.
I love the colours of this necklace …..the design to me looks like a wheatsheaf, bundled and tied with the dusky pink coloured ribbon. The way the ribbon is criss-crossed on the front is lovely and I love that on the ends of the ribbon on the verso, the threads have been carefully fanned so that it looks like another exquisite part of the design. There are three sets of matching, striped glass beads set at equal points along the ribbon, so that your eye has that extra interest when wearing this long necklace. I love the organic nature of this design and also the colours….a pink / purple which you don’t see so often in her work. The main carved section measures approx 9cm in height and the wearable length of the necklace is approx 80cm (31.5 inches). You simply pop it over your head as there is no catch.
A wonderful piece of early years Parisian Art Nouveau and in superb condition too- definitely one for collectors. Her work is exhibited in numerous galleries around the globe, including the Chicago History Museum. I will send in a necklace presentation box by complimentary special delivery within the UK or else by express courier internationally. Boxes in the images are not included. Thank you.
