An instantly recognisable and fabulously hand-crafted early Amy Sandheim pendant necklace, 1920s. It does come with a little provenance which puts its creation earlier than 1929. Lovely to see these pointed, sleeker leaves draped over the silver cap set at the top of this amazing faceted rock crystal stone, which has dozens of facets, giving it such a sparkle.

Other gems studded into the silver foliate cap at the front are, an apple green oval chrysoprase stone, a sugarloaf moonstone is set either side of the draped leaves to the right and left and in the centre of the design, we have a round amethyst cabochon, with two round chalcedony stones above it. Little silver dots of berries intersperse the three stone arrangement at the front. The verso of the cap is detailed with more of these pointed, draped leaves in silver, matching the front.

As we move up the links from the main pendant section, we see a faceted bead of rock crystal and then after a link or two, the moonstone set bale, bringing together the three moonstones in the overall design. All three moonstones flash between clear and blue, however, the moonstone on the bale is most likely a Ceylon blue stone as it has a high degree of adularescence/ blue shimmer. Typically for Sandheim, the stone set at the bale has a rope work detailing at its foot. Quite a large bale sits behind the moonstone, so it would accommodate other chains. This silver, detailed-links chain came with the pendant and may well be the original, so I will include it for you.

The collection of stones used here are just fabulous together and are also very indicative of the 1925-1929 early Art Deco era, in that greens and purples are used-here we also have the blue of the chalcedony and of course, the star of the show-the amazing rock crystal. A beautiful, early, obviously hand-worked example of Amy Sandheim’s work. All stones are in excellent order-it has been particularly well cared-for, no chips, no scratches…not even on the rock crystal, which is quite a feat indeed for a piece nearing 100 years old.

The pendant measures approx 7.5cm in height (including the bale) and approx 3.2cm wide. The length of the chain is approx 63.5cm (25 inches).  An absolute treasure!

A fabulous Amy piece with those sleek, distinctive leaves looking amazing against this particular mix of stones. I shall post in a new gift box by complimentary tracked and signed post. Thank you.
