Description

This is a lovely, clearly signed piece of design from the JUGENDSTIL era, from the design studio of Theodor Fahrner in Pforzheim, Germany c1910. You do see these foliate Fahrner designs from time to time and sometimes they are in brooch form, however, always nice to find a pendant with the original silver bale. The listing is for the pendant only.

The naturalistic oval shape of the silver openwork of the pendant provides the framework for the leaves, vines and chrysoprase grapes of the design. I love the curled tendrils which connect leaves and stones to the oval frame. The piece is beautifully balanced, with one chrysoprase cabochon in the centre and a cluster of three above it to the right. The leaves are fabulously hand crafted, undulating in finish so that they resemble real leaves in their draping.

The back of the pendant is clearly marked “TF” combined in a circle, folllowed by “935” for the quality of silver, being a higher quality than sterling (usually reserved for the better pieces of jewellery design).
The pendant measures approx 5cm in height by approx 3.2cm.
You can find a similar piece referenced on p145 of the literature: “Theodor Fahrner Jewelry…between Avantgarde and Tradition” by Schmundt, Weber, Becker.

It is a wonderful piece in lovely condition and ready to pop onto one of your own chains.

It will be sent by International Tracked and Signed or else Special Delivery within the UK. Please note the box is for display purposes only and the necklace will be securely boxed in another box for safe passage.
