A heavy and substantial band, which is a classic and sought-after design by Tiffany & Co. The Milgrain ring is such an elegant and understated ring of quality, that it has become rather iconic to use as a wedding band. This one, pleasingly, is the wider band at approx 6mm. It is a genuine ring with full Tiffany & Co markings of “TIFFANY & CO. 750 OT 950” inside the band for the quality of the gold and platinum used.
The beautiful design has a rounded platinum central section, which is positioned between two, finely millegrained (hence the name!) hoops of 18ct yellow gold. The metals complement each other so much. I adore this design and as soon as you take off the ring, you are struck by the bright 18ct yellow gold interior, which beams out at you…so striking.
I have lightly polished the ring with a cloth so that the platinum retains that “softness”. Some sellers have these rings professionally polished so that the platinum is bright and shiny. However, this strips a surface coating of platinum from the ring, in order to achieve the shiny look. You are therefore, recommended to do this only one additional time in the course of the ring’s life. The shiny effect is also very fleeting, as platinum very quickly returns to the soft appearance, which you will recognise if you own platinum rings already. I have not had it stripped for these reasons. It has been clearly gently worn, it has some light wear as you would expect but nothing at all major. All in keeping. Your decision whether to leave or ask your jeweller to professionally polish. In my opinion, it is an unnecessary procedure, as the platinum will “soften” in appearance very quickly once it is worn.
