Description
This is a most attractive buttery yellow 15ct gold Victorian brooch with wings and a fabulous ribbon section you can use a chain with. The detailing for the feathers on the wings is fabulous and I’m afraid the images do not do this piece justice at all. As if the design, crafted throughout in 15ct gold is not enough, the wings also seem to be carrying a miniature egg, popular in the late Victorian and Edwardian eras.
The egg is such a lovely example, in opal, with lots of flashes of blue and green, with a faceted rock crystal disc in the centre. The tied ribbons at the top of the wings provide more than one way to thread a chain through. It does not sit perfectly horizontally on a chain so if you would like that look, a jeweller would have to fit a bale to it. The original pin (also gold) is still present and the wings are clearly stamped with the old English stamp of “15CT”. I love that the pin has been rounded in shape so as to fit the brooch neatly. The minute and precise detailing on the wings adds an extra naturalistic touch to this lovely thing.
Clearly symbolising romance and love, this elegant, quality antique piece will make somebody smile to receive it. It’s a lovely thing in excellent condition. Some patina so polish further if you so desire. It does not come with a chain but if you have a fine trace chain, you can simply use that with it. The width of the brooch is approx 4.5cm and the drop from the ribbon is approx 2.5cm.
I shall send in a gift box (not the box in the images) and post by special delivery within the UK or else by courier internationally. Thank you.
