A rare and beautifully ornate Victorian Love Knot brooch, c1880 which is crafted in silver and gold with two coral cabochons together on a single drop. It oozes the theme of romance and love.
I love the fact that this piece is so naturalistic, with markings and details in the framework to resemble wood and branches.
I adore the amazingly detailed vine leaves studded over the whole design and the way they are crafted and wrapped around the main bark. The leaves and tendrils are silver gilt so you really get a feeling of depth with the structure of this piece.
The drop is articulated so it moves as you move. There are two wonderfully tiny and detailed leaves above the corals and set out as a pair.
If you consider the verso of the brooch, you see the craftsmanship that has gone into the making of this large and impressive brooch. It is a thing of beauty!
