Description
A lovely, larger-sized antique late Georgian / Victorian ring from the 1800s. It features a central rose cut diamond and has a “daisy” halo of a further 6 rose-cut diamonds. They are mounted in the typically stylised cut down settings we associate with Georgian design. The daisy design was particularly poplar in the 1800s as it represented, purity, innocence and new beginnings. Hence, it was used as an engagement offering by many.
I love the way the settings look like stars on the face of this ring-it really is so very pretty to wear. The band which tests as 18ct yellow gold is also lovely, with those motifs running up and down the shoulders and the horizontal detailed lines. Another lovely feature of the band is that it is not plain but has an attractive low line in the centre of the band with the sides rising slightly.
The diamonds are in closed back settings and are set, as was usual for the day, in white metal (silver in this instance). This was done to enhance the whiteness of the old diamonds.
The face of the ring measures approx 1.4cm in diameter. I love that it is a larger fit too, as usually these antique pieces end up being resized as they are so tiny. This ring measures as approx UK size S.5 (US 9.25).
In pleasing condition and ready to wear.
