Description

An unbelievably special and important English Arts and Crafts ring, that comes with provenance. This Gaskins’ ring, from the early years of the 1900s, came down through family descent from Ella Annesley Voysey, the granddaughter of Charles. F. A. Voysey, one of the founding members of the English Arts and Crafts movement. Voysey was a celebrated A&C architect who also designed many fabrics, wallpapers, ceramics and metalwork items. Indeed, those who know about English Arts and Crafts are familiar with his name and of his importance to the movement from a design perspective. As a founding member, Voysey would have been acquainted with other leading proponents of the Arts and Crafts movement, and of course, Arthur and Georgie Gaskin were leading lights in the world of A&C jewellery in the early decades of the 1900s.

This exceptional ring was most likely a commission piece for the Voysey family, and, as such, is a unique ring. It is a delightfully romantic piece with a shield-shaped openwork panel as a halo. It is decorated with those tiny instantly recognisable flecked Gaskins’ leaves and studded with tiny gold flowers The detail is just sumptuous. The Ceylon blue moonstone is astonishingly adularescent and that blue shimmer is strong, as you can hopefully see in the images.
The band is a typical Arts and Craft double band. There are no markings, as was usual.
It is in pleasing condition and offers someone the opportunity to purchase a really rare piece with provenance and with a truly beautiful design. Only light wear to this fabulous moonstone. It has been clearly well cared-for by the family all these years. It measures as approx UK size K (US approx size 5 -5.25).

I shall post by special delivery within the UK or else by express courier internationally. Please note the ring boxes in the images are not always included, however I will send in a new gift ring box to protect the piece. Thank you.
