Description
A lovely example of Charles and Gladys Mumford’s work, dating from mid-century and very much reflecting the Arts and Crafts style which influenced their work. A wonderful brooch!
This is a large brooch in sterling silver teamed with a beautiful striped agate stone, which has been carved into a six-petalled flower. A circular form, with several typical Mumford touches, such as their double coil ended links and their squareish tooth design to the stone’s setting. Just beautiful!
The Mumford’s pieces are becoming more and more sought after and it is always lovely to find such a brooch with a fabulous stone too, as the Mumford’s did a lot of pieces in silver alone, without stones.
The brooch measures approx 4cm in diameter. A statement brooch based on a strong, circular silver frame. To me, these striped agates are the best of their examples. Hold up to the light to see the banded characteristics more easily. It retains its original pin and rollover safety clasp.
In lovely condition, just some patina, which you may or may not wish to polish.
