Description
An attractive English Arts and Crafts design from the c1920s era, which features a large blue moonstone with high adularescence. What elevates this brooch further is the fact that the ropework detailing at the foot of the stone, as well as the halo of intricate coil work (all hand crafted!) is gilded with gold. The contrast of the blue with the gold adds a more opulent touch….a very neat and tidy brooch of fine quality.
The brooch also carries its maker’s mark, M & EW. I believe it was a company in Birmingham, which was such an important influence in the second wave of British Arts and Crafts jewellery design. The brooch is in excellent condition, retaining its original pin and simple C clasp. It has a hook where you could attach a safety chain if you prefer.
It measures approx 3.5cm by 2.4cm. As you can see it flashes with blue very easily.
