Description
A substantial piece, which is a half waist clasp, designed by Oliver Baker for Liberty & Co of London. It is a heavy and substantial piece, set with turquoise stones. Having a striking dual design (reminds me of 2 sea serpents) and crafted in hammered sterling silver, the piece can be used as a statement pendant. Stamped to the verso with the date letter for 1906.
Organic and sinuous lines are emphasised further by the use of silver wire, wrapped around to form a design attaching to the main structure of the clasp. Oliver Baker’s designs are immediately recognisable; he was one of the most innovative English designers of the early years of the twentieth century. His designs for Liberty & Co are highly sought-after.
There are a number of possibilities or adapting this clasp to another piece of jewellery. The easiest fix is to simply pass a silver chain through the two curled over links at the top of the design (please see photo). I have left the patina as it adds such depth to the planished silver. It measures approx 5.6cm by 5.1cm. It weighs 22.8g.
Please note the box is for display purposes only but the necklace will be securely boxed in another box for safe passage. Complimentary tracked and signed postage is included. Thank you.
