Description
A wonderful survivor from the late 1800s and the Victorian era. Crafted in silver and Bohemian garnets, it is a fabulous choker style of necklace in pleasing condition. All of the individually faceted garnet beads are present and correct and the silver filigree work is also in excellent order.
The faceted garnets throw the light around beautifully and that really elevates the overall piece. The silver panels and large, decorative clasp are arranged in an open work design with a flower head to the centre. This is also set with a garnet, at its centre point and gilding which makes the flowers pop even more. These flower heads can rotate so there is some movement to the piece.
You can opt to wear with the beads at the front, which is most likely the way the Victorians would have worn it- or else with the three panel clasp section at the front.
Amazing to see a five strand garnet piece like this in such great condition. It is a substantial piece of work that instantly transports you back to those Victorian days. It is approx 38.5cm, which is a touch over 15 inches. In excellent order. Could be polished further if you desire.
