A fabulous c1900 hand-wrought necklace with the most wonderful high domed amethysts, 6 of them in all. Very much of the Gaskins era, this necklace particularly reminds me of several designers’ work, including William T Blackband. It is a particularly attractive design with a three-sectioned central drop, culminating in the last of the 6 bezel-set amethysts. It is in lovely condition, even down to retaining its original hand-crafted toggle fastener.
The stones are really well-matched in their plum colour and all are in perfect condition with no damage. There are silver links of a rope-work construction, set with tiny silver balls on each end. Then there are silver links which really have three separate forget-me-not flower features on them, including circles and silver balls. The panels displaying the amethysts have coiled silver very much like you see in Blackband’s work, among others. The amount of work that has gone into this creation is very impressive indeed.
A lovely example, the drop section measures approx 8cm in height and the wearable length of the necklace is approx 50 cm (19.75 inches). In excellent condition and ready to be adored.
