Description

A wonderful English Arts and Crafts pendant, with some hints of Birmingham School, in such a lovely design. Created by hand in c1900, this beauty has two foil backed amethysts so that the rich royal purple colour seems even more intense. So many incredibly beautiful details make it an accomplished piece, for example, the lovely silver ball on both the integral bale and on the link suspending the drop. Just has such a sense of balance.

The central round amethyst is flanked on either side by a silver representation of a forget-me-not flower. We then have leaves fanned out over the top of the pendant, with a cluster of three silver balls under the bale. In addition, three leaves are fanned out below the central stone, with a three ball cluster nestled among them. I love the naturalistic and asymmetric nature of this design. The extended-oval shaped amethyst on the drop has a tiny little ball either side of the top loop, as we see with the Gaskins’ pieces among others. It is an incredibly pretty pendant.

In pleasing condition and ready to pop onto one of your chains. The central stone is so interesting with its inclusions, one or two tiny natural inclusions reach the surface of the stone (seen under the loupe) but it’s all part of the stone’s natural characteristics. Some patina which I have left as I think it enhances the appearance of the veins on the leaves. It measures approx 6cm in height, including the bale.
