c1900 English Arts and Crafts hand crafted silver and abalone heart necklace

A wonderful c1900 Arts and Crafts piece, hand-crafted and of graceful proportions

Out of stock

Lovely to see a more dainty antique festoon necklace, with drops and spacers on the chains-very much like the Murrle Bennett necklaces of the day. Most likely a one-off piece, it has been hand-crafted with care and every little delicate slice of abalone has been wrapped securely in its own closed back bezel setting. I adore the liveliness of the piece and the fact that those amazing abalone colours flash so easily when the light hits it; there are the typical blues and greens but also a lovely pink streak. This marries well to the pink flashes in the smaller diamond-shaped abalone slices in the drops below the heart.

A heart-shaped central panel is a dream for a piece like this and just makes it so much more unusual. The three drops suspended from the main panel are a kind of elongated diamond shape and as mentioned, they are of a silvery white main colour but with pink flashes as they move. Double chains lead from the main panel up to the set of abalone spacers – this time triangular shapes. From that point there is a single chain. I love the proportions of this beautiful necklace-more petite and actually completely in keeping with the c1900 era. In excellent condition with no damage, just some patina. There has been a clasp replacement at some point in her history. It is secure and ready to wear πŸ™‚

The chain measures approx 44.5cm (17.5 inches) in length and the pendant drop measures approx 3cm. I will send in a new gift box to keep her safe, as the boxes in the images are for display. Complimentary tracked and signed postage is included. Thank you.
