Description

A hugely pretty English c1900 Arts and Crafts brooch and in a colour that you really don’t find too often-pink. It is actually the first time I have come across spinel in this particular shade of pink, so the stones have been amazing for me to scrutinise. There are all sorts of organic structures visible within the 7 stones so that has been great fun to explore. I adore this shade of light pink and how the stones sparkle so easily.

There are a mix of round and oval faceted spinels, each has been set carefully in its own open-backed bezel setting. This promotes the maximum light showing the stones’ brilliance and more delicate shade of pink. There are 7 stones so that may be significant to someone. I like the reference of 7 for “7 days of the week” and also as a connection to the star sign of Libra (being the 7th star sign).

Hand-crafted so beautifully unique, with hand-wrought leaves, tendrils and small forget-me-not flower details in between the stones. I’m assuming this was created by a craftsperson from the Birmingham School of Arts and Crafts. It is a wreath brooch, which are very popular and it is just wonderful to own a unique, hand-crafted antique with stones that are so unusual.

The brooch measures approx 4.2cm in diameter. There is some patina as you can see so it would polish further. When scrutinised under a loupe, I could see a tiny fleabite from the underside of one stone but it is not visible from the front. Mentioned for accuracy purposes. She is a lovingly hand-crafted and non-symmetrical beauty, which means it has such an organic and naturalistic feel to it.

I shall post by special delivery within the UK or else by international tracked and signed. Please note the boxes in the images are not included, however I will send in a new box to protect the piece. Thank you.
