Description
A lovely example of a c1910 Edwardian round floral lavalier pendant, with foliate design and pink stones, crafted in 9ct gold. The pendant carries the antique gold stamp of “9CT” to the verso and pleasingly, the accompanying antique chain is also stamped “9C” on the clasp.
With a sturdier frame than you usually find on these Edwardian lavaliers, it is a more robust piece. It also has its original gold bale, which is actually quite large so if you did wish to use a larger chain, no problem, the bale would accommodate it. The way the simple stalk lines and that double pair of leaves are placed, it means they are highlighted beautifully within the circular framework. With a tiny seed pearl at both the top and bottom of the design and a lovely, vibrant faceted pink stone to either side of the design. It is a lovely design.
Under scrutiny with a loupe I can see a little wear to the stones but nothing to see with the naked eye. In keeping with her age. The stone on the left tests clearly as a pink tourmaline and the one on the right has a slightly different reading so I don’t know if both are original to the piece. They do look right though.
The chain matches the colour of the gold in the pendant really well. It is not a brash yellow gold but a sort of gentler rose/ yellow gold. As said – they make a lovely combination. The pendant drop measures approx 3.5cm and the length of the chain is approx 41cm (16 inches).
