Description
Dorrie Nossiter’s use of colour continues to wow me, and this fabulous brooch is a fine example of her more opulent crescent brooches. It was crafted in silver with extensive gold detailing and all executed by hand, c1930. Bejewelled with fine stones such as fire opal and rubies, among others, this colour combination of the orange with the pink as the base colours is just lovely. This brooch is also super finely worked with exquisite detailing on the gold leaves and balls. It also shows its heritage as the rollover clasp is also crafted in gold. It is without question one of her finer detailed brooches and it was sold originally at Tadema Gallery, London. If you are familiar with the name, you know they only sell the best pieces.
Tiny citrines and blister pearls are also set among the leaves and berries of the design. I count 15 gemstones in all. If you turn the brooch over, you can see the individually crafted open-backed settings in all their splendour. Individually crafted for each stone. Typical Dorrie spirals act as a further signature to the verso. The original pin, hinge and gold clasp are intact.
A beautiful palette of colours, with so much gold detailing and those exuberant Dorrie leaves…a feast for the eyes. The brooch measures approx 4.3cm at the widest point. In excellent condition. The photos do not do her justice-she is an exquisite beauty.
Postage is with International courier or else Special Delivery within the UK. I will provide a new gift box to keep this beautiful thing safe, as the box in the images is for display only. Thank you!
