A wonderful, documented book piece from the c1930 by the Arts and Crafts great Bernard Instone. A rare design and even rarer, with vibrant green demantoid garnets accenting the statement, faceted citrine. Quite often green pastes or else peridots were used to partner citrines in Bernard’s work so it is lovely to find demantoid garnets instead. They have such a vibrant presence and elevate this beautiful design even higher. This is a rarer piece of work and they certainly do not appear often at all.
This sterling silver pendant appears on p139 of the literature “Bernard Instone Designer and Craftsman; the art of a jeweller” by Tracy Henriksen. Some of Bernard’s most statement pieces were structured with a three-part drop. This lovely pendant is a fine example. The bale section is decorated by hand-tooled leaves in a roundel. The next link in the drop, a larger roundel, is decorated with hand-tooled leaves, tendrils and is set with the first of the vivid grass green demantoid garnets. The main part of the pendant is a large circular design, featuring an impressive rectangular cut citrine, set horizontally, with hand-tooled leaves, stalks and berries decoration in silver. All hand-crafted. Nestled safely among the leaves, are a further four vivid green demantoid garnets. It is truly a fabulous design.
Turn the pendant over and you will see those confident, coiled silver lines, which neaten the verso. This is typical of Bernard’s work. It is an eye-catching and fine piece of work from the c1930 era. In excellent condition, having been very well cared-for. The listing is for the pendant only so you can use one of your own chains to partner the pendant. The pendant is approx 5.4cm in height.
I will send by complimentary express courier internationally or else Special Delivery within the UK-thank you. I will send this fabulous piece in a new box for safe passage. Boxes in the images are not included.
