Description
A very rare find indeed for a number of reasons, not least because of the gorgeously vibrant boulder opal used as the centrepiece to this classic c1910 Edwardian lavalier design. The stone is WOW and to find it paired with an old-cut diamond, set in a pinched setting (in Georgian style), well it is a beautiful rarity and I am pretty sure you will not find another just like it.
A sleek and elegant piece of jewellery, screaming unhindered quality at you. The old-cut diamond is set at the joining of the two sections of gold chain and has a knife edge, long gold link suspended below it. The open backed bezel-set boulder opal is set on an articulated link so that there is movement when you wear this beautiful thing. I love that the diamond has that old cut-down, pinched setting that was used in many Georgian pieces. The diamond is light, bright and very sparkly. The opal, well….it is very unusual…it has a lot of colour-mainly reds and greens, although I can see some flashes of indigo too. There is a sort of brown snakeskin appearance and these flashes of colour pop out from below it. It is a solid opal as you can see from the images. It is a gorgeous stone, measuring approx 17mm by 8mm so you are getting several carats of of lovely opal.
The pairing of this opal with the light and super sparkly diamond is quite an inspiration. It is a classic and scarce lavalier of quality. In excellent order and ready to gift or else to slip onto your own neck. The drop of the pendant section measures approx 4.5cm and the wearable length of the chain is approx 41cm (16 inches). Catch on the chain is marked as 9ct gold. Pendant unmarked but has been tested as minimum 9ct gold too. A wonderful survivor of Edwardian England.
I will send in a new gift box to keep her safe and send by international express courier or else by Special Delivery within the UK. Box in the images is for display only. Thank you.
