A stupendous c1900 Jugendstil / Art Nouveau design, fully and clearly signed by Hermann & Speck of Pforzheim-one of the great jewellery companies in Pforzheim at that time. This piece is amazing in its design and could easily be a museum piece. Forgive any patina-I have left that so that you can polish away or leave, as you prefer. The green to purple fade in the enamel is sublime!
This piece screams Jugendstil design- the colour fade enamels, the “alien” quality with pearls placed as eyes, the sinuous lyre-like lines in the set feature holding a garnet and a pearl. The small, round garnet drop is a lovely feature too.
If you look really closely, you can see the small four dots design in silver running through the enamel sections-incredible really. If you flip the brooch over, you find all-original condition there too, with the HS intertwined maker’s mark “DEPOSE” and “900”. Looks like a slight gilt wash over the brooch, which has some wear inevitably.
This beautiful brooch measures approx 3.8cm in height. It is a wonderful survivor and a real statement piece.
I shall send in a new gift box by complimentary tracked and signed postage. (Boxes in the images are for display only). Thank you.
