Description

A little bit of a mystery with this brooch, which undoubtedly looks like an Amy Sandheim piece and similar also to the work of Sibyl Dunlop in those early years. It is even hallmarked for London, the year 1926 which is just right for the work of both Amy and for Sibyl Dunlop. However, I do not recognise the mark of the maker so it could well be that was the silversmith who had the piece assayed. I think there is a lovely Scottish influence to this piece (Sibyl Dunlop was born in Scotland) because of the use of a large blue agate to the centre, and with a variety of oval and round carnelians, also associated with Scotland.

Each of the four intricate open work panels have been brought together in this arrangement, acting as a halo to the large agate stone. There are large sturdy teeth keeping it safe in its setting. There is also rope work detailing at the base of the setting. Full hallmarks to the verso for London, 1926, along with what looks like “HG K” as the maker’s mark. The rollover part of the catch does not function too well but it still fastens as a C catch would. The brooch measures approx 5.2cm by 4.5cm. In pleasing condition, with natural fluctuations as is typical for a hand-made piece of work.

I shall post by special delivery within the UK or else by international tracked and signed. Please note the boxes in the images are not included, however I will send in new boxes for their safekeeping. Thank you.
