Description
A lovely find. An acknowledged Sibyl Dunlop design, which I have come across before, however, not with the inverted heart carnelian cabochon as you see here. The silver foliate openwork is instantly recognisable as Sibyl used to use several of these panels together in larger necklaces. This is a single panel that perhaps could have been an extravagant earring originally. However, as you can see it works perfectly as a more petite Sibyl pendant that could be worn more as a daytime piece. Full of impact as it is a concentrated drop of Sibyl’s creativity.
Crafted in the 1920s, this is an earlier piece of work. That elongated inverted heart-shaped stone is such an intense and glowing carnelian and the colour arrangement of the gem stones works beautifully. There is apple green chrysoprase and milky blue chalcedony to enhance the orange of the carnelians. Sibyl used the best lapidaries (stone cutters) in Europe as she had such high standards of what she wished to use in her work. Her gem arrangements are always so very inspired.
An excellent opportunity to acquire a wonderful piece of Sibyl Dunlop’s work without breaking the bank. The pendant measures approx 5cm in height, including the small bale. I am happy to include the (more modern) silver trace chain for you too. That measures approx 51cm (20 inches) in length.
