Description
What a treat…an acknowledged Sibyl Dunlop design, which I have come across before, however, not with the inverted heart amethyst cabochon as you see here. The silver foliate openwork is instantly recognisable as Sibyl used to use several of these panels together in larger necklaces. This is a single panel that perhaps could have been an extravagant earring originally. However, as you can see it works perfectly as a more petite Sibyl pendant that could be worn more as a daytime piece. Full of impact as it is a concentrated drop of Sibyl’s creativity.
Crafted in c1930, this piece is a treat for anyone who loves amethyst too. That elongated inverted heart-shaped stone is such an interesting cabochon. Sibyl used the best lapidaries (stone cutters) in Europe as she had such high standards of what she wished to use in her work. Both of these stones are perfectly matched, both in colour and also in the fact that there are glistening inclusions in the stones.
An excellent opportunity to acquire a wonderful piece of Sibyl Dunlop’s work without breaking the bank. The pendant measures approx 5cm in height, including the small bale. I am happy to include the (more modern) silver chain for you too. That measures approx 62cm (24.5 inches) in length.
