Description
A most attractive early, hand-crafted Sibyl Dunlop Arts and Crafts piece in perhaps one of her favourite colour combinations of purple, white and blue. I have had a number of her pieces using these three colours in combination- all beautiful things. This necklace is a wonderful find, being typical of her earlier pieces and having the distinctive motifs to the front, whilst having that typically smooth “glassy” effect to the silver on the verso. I believe this would have been an early 1920s creation.
The drop pendant is constructed in an open work style with loose floral wirework. The main panel is set with a round faceted amethyst to the centre, which is flanked on three sides by faceted rock crystal stones. In the lower panel, a round cut faceted rock crystal is set with a vague petal work arrangement around it. Two small, oval blue chalcedony cabochons are suspended from the main panel, whilst an oval amethyst stone is suspended at the bottom of the pendant.
Two sets of double chains lead from the pendant to an amethyst spacer on each side. The chains are original to the piece, even down to the beautifully hand-crafted toggle fastener…a delight! In excellent condition and ready to wear. The height of the pendant, from the spacer to the bottom of the amethyst drop is approx 6cm and the length of the chain is approx 59cm (23.25 inches).
I shall send in a new gift box by International courier or else by Special Delivery within the UK. Boxes in the images are for demonstration only. Thank you.
