Description

A beautiful example of the Arts and Crafts necklaces c1900 created by Murrle Bennett, the Anglo German company, who mainly sold through Liberty & Co of London. This is a beautiful example, as it is fully signed, has gold settings for all four amethysts and also has original matching spacers and toggle fastener.

I love this rarer hammered silver design with the cut-out sections on the main panel. The spacers are lovely too, as you have a small hammered plaque set with the gold bezel-set faceted amethysts. Beautiful! The warmth of the yellow gold against the plum of the amethysts is really a joy!

The triangular chained section connecting main pendant to spacers is of the more unusual design and it is beautiful. I also love the fact that we have the original MB chain and hand-crafted toggle fastener to the piece. The chain is a fetter-style of chain with one long link and several short links interspaced throughout. Loving the original amethyst drop to the necklace too, as all too often these are missing.

The wearable length of the chain is approx 42cm (16.5 inches). The shield part of the pendant measures approx 5 cm in height including the drop. Gorgeous piece. Fully stamped with both “MBc” maker’s mark for Murrle Bennett and “950” (for the quality of silver -higher silver content than sterling) on the verso.

I will send by complimentary express courier internationally or else Special Delivery within the UK-thank you. Box in images is for display purposes only.
