A truly glorious hand-crafted Arts and Crafts necklace by Dorrie Nossiter c1930. It is such a spectacularly opulent piece and when you drape this lovely thing around your neck, those incredible faceted rock crystals shimmer and sparkle like an antique chandelier. The gem-studded box clasp is WOW….with rubies, spinels and gold. Just look at the way each of those red /pink stones is set carefully and individually into its own bezel setting. I could literally study it for hours, in total admiration of her work. Honestly, this is such a statement necklace; Dorrie at her best, once again.
Those three strands of rock crystal links are all different lengths so you get a draped, tiered effect when you wear this beauty. I was so relieved to see that you can wear the clasp at the side, so it is very visible, and the necklace wears beautifully. Who would want to wear this sumptuous clasp at the back! The rectangular, rounded and faceted rock crystal links feel so tactile and also throw the light around, as said earlier, reminiscent of a crystal chandelier.
The shortest chain of rock crystals measures approx 14.5 inches in length, so is worn at the throat, with the other strands falling below it in a very flattering way. The box clasp measures approx 2.6cm by 1.9cm. I have scanned this lovely thing very closely and cannot find any damage at all to any of the stones. It is in wonderful condition.
