Description
A lovely Arts and Crafts brooch, finely executed and attributed to Rhoda Wager. It is in a typical A&C foliate design with a trio of leaves at each side of the opal. The opal is large, blue-based with many blue and red flashes. I am assuming it is an Australian opal.
All crafted by hand, the round opal cabochon is set in a fine mille grain setting. Silver wires and occasional tiny silver balls decorate the sides of the setting and connect the two areas of leaves. This is such a pretty, balanced brooch with a dramatic, fiery stone.
In good order with only a tiny nibble to the edge (I saw it under a loupe-you don’t see it when wearing it) with just some patina remaining. A lovely example. The opal has a diameter of approx 1.2cm. Retains its original silver pin and simple C catch.
I shall send in a new gift box (not the box in the images) and by complimentary tracked and signed post. Thank you.
