A wonderful antique statement collar necklace from the c1880 era, which looks incredible when worn. It is bold and beautifully intact, including all of the alternating panels, the original “hidden” box clasp fastener and even all of the tiny drops carrying the face of a cherub are all still present. Reminiscent of both Austro-Hungarian designs and the Peruzzi designs of Florence, Italy.
If you are looking for a magnificent riviere style of necklace, with detailing all the way around the necklace then this could be just what you are looking for. It sits as a loose collar or choker style of necklace. It is an exciting design with alternating oval silver panels; one with a robed person leaning against a classical column and the other with a cherub playing a musical instrument. There is a laurel foliate design around the periphery of each cherub panel. In between each panel is suspended a teardrop shaped silver drop with repousse work of a cherub’s face. It is an eye-catching antique necklace to say the least.
It is approx 5.5cm wide (at the widest point with the drop included) and measures approx 15.5 inches (39.5cm) in length. It retains its large, original silver clasp which is a delight.
