A beauty of a piece, c1900, fully signed by the highly sought-after designer Marius Hammer of Norway. A rare Art Nouveau / Skonvirke piece, I have only seen a handful of examples of these in all my research. This is a complete beauty of a find, as the blue of the sodalite stones just works so well with the silver on the structure of the brooch.
The overall theme is the organic Art Nouveau flowers and leaves design, typically found in these beautiful Skonvirke pieces. Even the top stone resembles the heart of a flower, with opening petals sealing it in its setting. Then we have ornate leaf like scrolls running around the top section of the brooch in almost a bow design. Supr to have all the original links and the original drop and both stones plus silver work are in excellent condition.
A striking and large piece at around 7.5cm in height by approx 5cm in width, this piece is in excellent, all original condition. It has retained a little patina over the years, which I would leave as it looks so “right” with it. Signed to the reverse “835S” and with a clear Marius Hammer’s maker’s mark.
