Description
This really is a sensational pendant necklace c1900- with the most delicious hand-crafted detailing. Asides from the lovely detailing in silver, there is a large and creamy white mother of pearl cab in the centre and then six faceted garnet-topped doublets, which transform from the red we normally associate with garnets to the blue colour you see in the images. This was a way to achieve the look of a sapphire using other gem stones. The sparkly blue of the faceted stones combined with the white of the MOP, creates a crisp, clean and polished piece of antique jewellery art.
I love the way the bale section is articulated and set with its own garnet, as it mirrors the main pendant beautifully. The way that many of the details are opposed ovals, gives a very interesting look to the piece too. Tiny silver balls are interspersed between each feature, which is also very typical of the era. It is such an attractive example and is without doubt, a one-off hand-crafted piece of work.
The chain has a number of round silver links and then an elongated silver bar link. It has had a catch replacement at some time in its past. The pendant section measures approx 6cm and the chain measures approx 43.5cm (17.25 inches). In superb condition-it is sure to please someone hugely and I am sure it will be adored instantly.
I shall send in a new gift box (not the box in the images) by special delivery within the UK or else by express courier internationally. Thank you.
