Description
This is such a beautiful and sweet necklace, hand-crafted by such delicate hands, c1900. I did wonder if this was a Jean Bassett piece but the leaves look a little different, although also familiar. It is splendidly unique and undoubtedly a one-off design. Every little touch is delicate, right down to the tiny pairs of double leaves that are used in the links. I love every element of this necklace, not least the asymmetry and naturalistic touches.
The round central MOP is surrounded by a halo of leaves. There are grouping of silver balls and single balls interspersed in the halo. Then something so unique, elongated stalks have been used to add height to the lines above the roundel, to the point where the bale is attached. Tiny clusters of balls decorate the stalks, which culminate in pairs of leaves. The bale has been dotted with a ball and I adore the way the chain attaches to a curved foliate link of such petite proportions.
The chain has several different links, including one with a round MOP flanked by tiny silver balls both at the top and bottom. A hand made fastener too makes this unique antique necklace a fine example of English Arts and Crafts work. You won’t find another like this-she is a beautiful rarity.
I shall send in a new gift box (not the box in the images) by special delivery within the UK or else by express courier internationally. Thank you.
